One of the good things about running your own business is the idea of flexible working hours but to many people I work with, that just means 24 x 7 hours!
It is important when we start a business that we develop a clear idea about what we want to achieve in the business, both personally and professionally – your Vision and Mission. If you always thought your business would see you spending more time surfing and the closest you’ve come to that dream is your screen saver then it might be time to have a re-think. Business is hard, but the rewards can be great if you set things up to earn money while you sleep. That won’t happen overnight but it should be on your radar. As well as having a Vision and Mission you have to set boundaries and timelines. How much time, money and personal integrity are you willing to put on the line to achieve business success? What could you be doing that would give you more joy, money and flexibility? In other words what is the opportunity cost of you spending your energy building a business?
By having a clear Vision and Mission, by setting goals and constantly evaluating your success towards these goals you’ll know when to keep going, when to re-evaluate or when to stop.
