Thank you 21 Day Blog Challenge – you have given me the inspiration to get out of my pj’s and out of bed. Just when I was feeling all smug after having blogged ahead of myself for days, taking every herb for colds and drinking my weight in lemon the wrath that can only come from a 9 year olds constant coughing and sneezing hit me hard and sent me to bed – no voice and a chest infection.
So slowly emerging from the fog of sleep I thought about an exercise I do with people wanting get into business and leave the comfort of employment – are you better off working for someone else?
Purely in a monetary sense this is what it looks like. When you work permanently for someone else these are some of the things you might be entitled to:
- Sick leave
- Carers leave
- Paternal
- Holidays
- Public holidays.
And the crazy thing is – you get paid while you are away! When you work for someone else you also get superannuation, may get discounts on health care cover, insurances etc. if you are in a quandary about whether you may earn more money working for yourself vs and employer – you might want to crunch these numbers.
Oh and yes it pays to remember when you do get to employ someone in your business you have to allow for all of these costs and the cost of replacing that person while they are away.
Ideally while I watch the back of my eyelids I would still be earning money while I sleep – that should be the aim of every small business. I also have an operations plan that means someone could pick up where I left off . I just need a clone because it’s hard to facilitate with no voice!
Despite the challenges of small business I wouldn’t change it for the world. What do you do when you are sick?
