Where do you derive your inspiration from as a small business owner? An idea, a desire, a need? Business is not the easiest path to take when it comes to securing stable financial independence so motivation derived from inspiration can keep you going.
For me I remain inspired by the potential of small business to change lives and influence generations. I can work my business around the needs of my family and my daily yoga routine!
I am motivated by Purple Pyjamas because I love helping people achieve their vision for business. Because I believe life should be full of joy, I am also just as happy to talk people out of starting a business unless it’s an itch that they just have to scratch. Small business is hard work; generally it takes longer and costs more before you reach financial success.
The reasons why people want to start a business are many and varied. For some it’s about moving towards something, for others, it’s leaving something behind. The ten common reasons people tell me they want to start a small business:
- There is income potential in business beyond what I can earn working for someone else
- I have a great idea that is unique in the market
- An opportunity has presented that I just can refuse
- Pursuit of a passion – I’ve always wanted to…
- Lifestyle – leaving behind the daily grind
- Express my creativity, make the world a better place
- Tired of providing energy and effort for the benefit of someone who doesn’t appreciate it
- I have no choice – there are no local jobs, I have carers responsibilities
- Because I can
- I won lotto!
Knowing why you want to go into business forms part of your business Vision. Set your sites on your vision and make a list of what you are prepared to sacrifice (you will have to make them!).
Whatever your motivation and inspiration I believe anyone can start a business. Whether you can sustain it and ‘earn money while you sleep’, is another story!
You need to have a clear vision and be persistent, patient and passionate towards achieving it. What is your motivation for starting a business?
