Some smart business ideas come from combining two things. The ‘cricket cooler’ is a summer invention that combines the need for cool drinks with cricket stumps.
The founders from Adelaide, Leigh Warren and Adam Dubrich, created the cricket cooler after suffering the pain of many Australians – dragging all their stuff from the car to the beach / park and yet always forgetting the cricket stumps. However it never seems to be a problem as instead of stumps (wicket) people will use a bin, a body board, a chair, a cooler or any other item that can double as a wicket. Now they don’t have to!
The combination of stumps with a cooler (on wheels) resulted in a unique product that is practical and appealing to the Aussie back yard cricket fan.
When I first saw the Cricket Cooler product on National TV, my daughter and I rejoiced that we had solved her Dad’s Christmas present woes. When the Cooler was on display as we played cricket over summer – most men I know said – “I can’t believe no one has done this before”.
And there is the difference between an entrepreneur and everyone else – entrepreneurs will act on their impulses and make their dreams a reality.
It hasn’t been an easy task to get from the concept to product stage. After a few prototypes and funding from Kickstarter it has taken the friends 4 years from securing a patent to designing, testing and manufacturing to get the product to market this summer. And I’m so pleased they did!
